Giving Back — Ever Thought About Youth Counseling?
Written by Michael on August 21, 2006 – 4:49 am -As you know, I’m a big believer in giving back as a way to learn more about yourself and your work passions.
I’ve written before about international volunteer activities (click here for more).
There are plenty of domestic sources for volunteering as well, and then there are paid full-time paid positions in all sorts of disciplines.
If you have worked with young people or have a background that would lend itself to that arena, you might want to consider youth counseling.
I can vouch for one outfit in particular, as my step-daughter has been working with them, in the field, for nearly two years. The Eckerd Youth Foundation is currently looking for youth counselors to work in their outdoor therapeutic programs in Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
The openings that they currently have are year-round (they look for people who’re willing to commit for at least two years) residential positions (you’ll live with at-risk kids in a camp-like setting) and have a salary plus free room and board.
It’s tough work and it’s awfuly intense, but it just might be your cup-o-tea.
Check it out.
