Some of the Best Free Job Resources Around
Written by Michael on June 28, 2007 – 12:00 am -There are loads of online job boards and resources.
Infoplease is one that I’ve recently re-discovered, and it’s probably worth a look-see. This baby is jammed with job descriptions, forecasts, and tools to help you explore different career ideas.
These kinds of resources tend to be pretty dry, and Infoplease’s career section is really no exception — I mean, just how sexy can you make a job description?
However, the Infoplease write-ups can help you narrow down your interests to a few areas, so you can then go off and focus on those with other resources and your own foot work. As you browse hundreds of different jobs at Infoplease , you’ll get a chance to uncover what you think might be good fits for your own background and style.
I suggest you start with the Career Guide section, where you can match your interests to:
- Jobs Involving Math
- Jobs Involving Reading and Writing
- Jobs Involving Science
- Jobs Involving Social Studies
- Jobs Involving Music and the Arts
- Jobs Involving Building and Fixing Things
- Jobs Involving Helping People
- Jobs Involving Computers
- Jobs Involving Law
- Jobs Involving Managing Money
- Jobs Involving Sports
- Jobs Involving Nature
Then, once inside one of those categories, you’ll see lists of jobs. For example, within the Jobs Involving Reading and Writing section, you’ll find these jobs:
- Writer
- Desktop Publisher
- Secretary
- Librarian
- Reporter
For each of those jobs, and for the hundreds of others buried within the various job categories, you’ll find sections on what the job is like and what you need to do to get ready for a career. For some of the jobs, you may also learn about specific individuals in that career.
Another section of this site is the Infoplease Career Channel, which is a job posting board along with additional information and forecasts about specific careers. So, while you can use the Career Channel just as you would, say, a Monster.com, for job searching, the Infoplease site provides more detail on job trends than you’re likely to find elsewhere.
Worth a look Dream Jobber, so check ‘er out.
