A Dream Job Challenge for You — 10-in-10
Written by Michael on November 7, 2007 – 1:48 am -A couple of days ago, I wrote about Curt Rosengren and his 30-in-30 challenge of talking to 30 interesting people in 30 days.
Let’s see if we can personalize that challenge to you, Dream Jobber.
As I’ve heard so often from people looking for a job that fits their mission and passion, I don’t exactly know what I want in a dream job, but I sure know it ain’t this (what I’m doing right now).
Okay, so here’s the deal . . . I challenge you to see if you can find out.
Here’s how, and let’s call it 10-in-10.
Step 1. Pick five jobs that seem interesting, cool, fun, or right up your ally (if you could do anything). You know, the kind of jobs that you’ve said about in the past, wow, I’d really love to have that job.
Step 2. Write ‘em down.
Step 3. Find two people (in your town, on the Web . . . doesn’t matter) who work in each of those jobs.
Step 4. Call or write each person and ask them if they’d be willing to talk to you (in person or via telephone) about THEIR job for 15 minutes. I’ve found that most people will gladly share what they do for work, how they got started, why they like what they do, and all that stuff. But, ya gotta ask nicely. I’ve found that simply saying “I’m writing to ask for your help” is a great way to start. Most people love to help.
Go for 10-in-10. 10 people. 10 conversations. 10 days.
I’ll guarantee you that, if you go for this 10-in-10 challenge, you’ll learn a lot more about yourself than the people you’re speaking with.
Let me know how you get on.
And, good luck!
