The Portable Empire in Seven Steps

I just picked up a book called Your Portable Empire: How to Make Money Anywhere While Doing What You Love, by Pat O’Bryan.

Not sure if it’s any good yet, but I do know this . . . O’Bryan has some great chapter names in the thing, which drew me in to begin with.  Here are a few chapter titles:

  • Your Money Thermostat
  • I’d Rather Fail Big Than Live Small
  • Failing Up
  • All the Success You Can Stand

Essentially, O’Bryan’s “thing” is about building an Internet-based business (mostly around information products) that you can operate from anywhere.  Here, in short, are his seven steps in doing just that:

  1. Choose your niche.
  2. Identify a pressing problem in your niche.
  3. Create a solution you can give away. Set up a “squeeze page” to exchange names and email addresses for your solution.
  4. Contact large list owners and arrange for them to give your freebie away.  This will build your list and create relationships with future joint-venture partners.
  5. Find more problems and create more solutions.  Sell them to your list, and offer them to your partners to sell to their lists.
  6. Continue building relationships with your subscribers and your partners.
  7. Repeat to build multiple streams of passive income.
