Why I Love Failure to Pieces
Written by Michael on March 17, 2008 – 12:51 am -I’ve written about why failure is so good for the soul, painful as it is when you live through it. Here’s one piece about part of one of my own business failures: Werner’s Failed Business #2.
I was reminded of all this when reading Eldon Sarte’s excellent article on Maybe You Just Haven’t Failed Enough.
You see, Eldon thinks a lot like I do on this subject. Failure is actually good for you, but only if you’re able to pick yourself up and give things another go. Unfortunately, for many of us, we sink all of our hopes and dreams into one plan and, when it fails, we feel so destroyed that we just can’t move forward again.
For those of us who have a dream job aspiration, and we fail (at first) at it, we’re often tempted to go back into the mainstream world of work where we were so miserable before, accepting our lot in life as fate.
So, read Eldon’s advice from his dad here, and then . . .
Jump over and read this article, that I also learned about from Eldon:
My Top 10 Worst Ideas to Make Money.
THEN . . . answer this question for me (and, hmmm, for yourself):
Ya got what it takes to try again?

Hey Michael:
Interesting article - not failing enough is sure intriguing. I’ve lost count how many times I failed at something. Failure to find sponsors, failure to get on a major talk show like Oprah, failure to get that $6 million account while at Merrill Lynch, failure to get a literary agent, failure to get a publisher, etc.
The list can go on. Is this a badge of honor ? Geez, I hope not but it’s certainly adding to my list of experiences on the way to…..where? That’s the funny thing…..where?
Great article and links - by the way, the link to your #2 failure is not working.

I just started a website about failing online. I teach readers how to NOT make money online.
http://www.imakenomoney.com
It is a fairly new site but I am also looking for user contributed stories. Feel free to submit yours.

@Stephen: Hey there. Thanks for the tip on the broken link. Fixed it. As for your other comments, in the words of every single sales person who hears the word “no” more than most of us ever want to contemplate, “every no just gets us that much closer to a ‘yes’ . . .”
So, I do believe that every failure (if we try our best to learn the lessons contained within) gets us closer to a success.
@Paul: Clever domain name! I hope you have absolutely NO success with it!
