Sending Resume? Do You Tell ‘Em WHY?

Okay, friends, I’m going to yell and scream a tad today.

Really.

There’s something about people who send resumes and don’t tell me why or where the connection is.

When I receive these where-in-the-hell-did-this-guy-come-from resume, all I want to do is go: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

And, if you want to hear what that sounds like, check this out.

Ya see, I receive over 2,000 resumes a year and I look at every single one of them.  Every single one.  Why?  We need talent!  And, I’ll stop at nothing to find it.

Now, mind you, 90 percent of those 2,000 are inappropriate for our needs or just pure drivel.

But . . . hidden among that 90 percent — I’m convinced — are some real jewels that we miss . . . because the resume sender doesn’t tell us why she’s sending it.

Hey, if you’re slinging burgers at McD’s but you’ve been spending 30 hours a week at nights learning how to become a Flash programmer, and that’s the job you’re applying for . . . for crying-in-your-milk, why don’t you tell me that?  How can I know unless you tell me?

So . . . summing up . . . keep sending out your resume, but please tell the recipient why you’re sending it and where the connection is between you and the job you’re seeking.  I’m not a mind reader and I’m guessing that most of the other resume readers out there aren’t either.
