My Dream Job Contest

Written by Michael on July 7, 2008 – 1:42 am -

In the Fall of 2007, the AARP started a contest for retired dream-job seekers.  They invited job seekers 50 and older to share their vision of the perfect job, where they asked contestants to submit brief essays about their dream jobs and to describe how journaling about their pursuit would help others.

The AARP judges read more than 7,000 essays to come up with six winners.   Each winner received a career coaching or business start-up package from RetirementJobs.com.

Check out the contest and follow the journals of the six.

Awwww, Michael, I got so excited when I read the title of your post, “My Dream Job Contest”, thinking it was a contest, itself, instead of an article about one.

Although I enjoyed reading the article, I’d love to see a job contest here!

dmw: I’m with K. Reilly! Saw your post title; was thinking of possibly passing it along on Wordpreneur. But the post didn’t quite deliver as the title promised. :-)
If you want, you and I can scheme together on some contest for your readers. L8R

    Having a contest here?

    Sounds interesting.

What would you like to see me do?

I actually entered that contest…didn’t win but it got me off my duff and I’m workin’ on an idea…

    Hi Michael,

It would be interesting for you to offer an essay contest that asks about the struggles in finding a dream job, or possibly zeroing in on the stumbling blocks that prevent us from achieving our goals. Or do we even HAVE clear goals?

For a prize, I think a brainstorming session with Michael or Eldon, online or on the phone, would be ideal! I, for one, could really use this.
