Interview Yourself to Uncover Your Dream Job
Written by Michael on August 12, 2008 – 6:05 am -Having trouble uncovering your dream job passion?
My buddy, Stephen Hopson, over at Adversity University did something clever recently.
Stephen regularly runs interviews with interesting people who he knows or would like to know. Last week, though, he didn’t have an interview subject, so he decided to interview himself. And, in typical Hopson style, he added a little flair. Normally in his interviews, he asks a question of his subject, then he’ll add his own final comment to the subject’s answer.
And, here’s the twist: When he interviewed himself, he answered his questions; but then, he also commented on his own answers.
So, it was Hopson interviewing Hopson and Hopson responding to Hopson’s questions and comments. Sounds a little confusing, but it really isn’t when you look at it.
In fact, the more I thought about it, the more I realized this would be an incredible technique to help you uncover just what it is you want in life.
In fact, your first question to yourself should be: Self, just what is it you want your dream job to do for you? Then, answer that question. After that, reflect and respond to the “you” who just answered it.
Then let your questions take whatever direction feels right to you, as the interviewer.
I’m intrigued with what you might uncover about yourself.
Check out Hopson’s interview with himself, and then do your own.
Good stuff; check ‘er out.

Learning About Your Dream Job Passion (Sooner Is Good)
Written by Michael on July 11, 2008 – 12:37 am -I wish I’d known earlier what I was passionate about. At some point in my mid-30s, I realized that I could help smart people make better decisions about things on a scale that mattered . . . and that to me was tremendously fun! I believe we’re all meant to discover our gifts and use them. When we do, we get to perform and contribute and engage at a whole new level.

A Step in the Right Dream Job Direction
Written by Michael on June 12, 2008 – 4:31 am -Lack of motion is what keeps us stuck.
Literally.
Take a step toward your dream job.
Just one.
Then do it again, or open another door.
Watch what happens.
You’ll amaze yourself. That old Indian/Hindu/Eskimo/Twain/Sufi/Buddhist adage that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step is oh so true when it comes to dream jobbing.
Wanna be a writer? Go hang out with a few writers. Better yet, ahhh hmmm, start writing.
Always hankerin’ to be a charter boat fishing captain? Go down to the docks and start talking to the guys.
Think you’re the funniest lass on the block and want to turn your gaggle of chuckles into stand-up comedy? Put a small routine together and start doing your “show” for free at a local church, school, or neighborhood cook out.
Move.
Forward.
Now.
PS No whining allowed.

How to Find Out What You’re Meant to Do
Written by Michael on June 8, 2008 – 4:04 am -Let’s look at the typical path of a college graduate who has not found what they love to do.
Graduated from college -> can’t find job -> get’s low paying “temporary” job just to pay the bills -> starts to become complacent and falls into routine -> struggles to get out of routine but can’t because of accumulation of debt to finance lifestyle of escaping reality and impressing people with material possessions -> effectively becomes a slave to the job as it is needed to pay the bills-> looks foward to weekend to complain about job but does nothing and gets wasted to forget troubles-> gets depressed -> struggles to find meaning in life -> maybe gets a small promotion at temporary job by employer as an incentive not to quit -> hates waking up in the morning everyday but does it anyway to pay the bills -> makes other people’s lives miserable because his is -> rinse and repeat for 40 years -> lies on deathbed regretting life, wishing he could go back and change it all, and dies knowing that he can’t.
