Best Kept Marketing Secrets

Written by Michael on March 7, 2008 – 12:11 pm -

I love lists.

Especially when they’re lists of advice from people who know what they’re doing, because they’ve done it before.  (Conversely, I don’t trust many of the yappers out there who simply guess-n-spew.)

So, if you’re already in business for yourself, head on over to Anita Campbell’s excellent Small Business Trends website where she’s divulging some of the best-of-the-best marketing how-to’s from some of the best been-there-done-that achievers on the planet.

Yummy food for thought; check ‘er out.

Startup Funding for a New Business

Written by Michael on February 8, 2008 – 12:10 am -

Scott Allen, who keeps track of all things entrepreneurial, has a recent article about where to find dough for a new business.

I’m pretty much in the camp that says any sort of external funding is a bad thing.

Evil, actually.

For one, you get sloppy.  Real sloppy.  I remember an old pal of mine telling me about his start up and all the new goodies (office furniture, new computers, yaddy yaddy) he was acquiring.  When I asked him where all that stuff was coming from and how it was being funded (he’d had a loan from a family member to start up his venture), he said something like . . . ahh, not to worry, the company’s paying for it. Create Your Own Legal Business Entity (Without a Freakin’ Lawyer) for $125

Written by Michael on January 28, 2008 – 1:43 am -

Need to create a formal business entity?

Been scared off because you thought you’d need a lawyer and all that razzmatazz?

You’ve likely heard of one or more of the various web-based services that offer to do this for you at a fraction of what a lawyer will charge you.  And, yup, I’ve used a couple of these services myself in the past, with success, and without hassle.

So, when I saw my pal Stephen Hopson’s article over at Adversity University on this very topic, I thought I’d pass his experience your way.

Need to get legal?  Check ‘er out.

Written by Michael on January 24, 2008 – 1:31 am -

Got tech?

Seth Godin has flat out nailed another great dream job opportunity over at Seth’s Blog.

Your Own Business Starts with Your Mindset

Written by Michael on November 27, 2007 – 12:58 am -

Most people who fail in their own businesses do so because:

1.  They spend too much time on planning and research, and not enough on doing.

2.  They are hesitant to change things that aren’t working.

3.  They believe they are immune to the laws of #1 and #2.

If you can’t believe in a ready-fire-aim philosophy to your very core, you should be working for someone who does.

Pssst . . . Wanna Become a Millionaire?

Written by Michael on August 15, 2007 – 2:00 am -

Years ago, Srully Blotnick conducted a study of 1,500 people.  They were put into two categories:  Category A said they would pursue money first and do what they really wanted to do later.  Over 1,245 people went into that group.  Category B, made up of 255 people, said that they would seek their interests first, and trust that money would follow later.

What happened?

Twenty years later, there were 101 millionaires from the entire group.  Only one came from group A.  The remaining 100 millionaires came from group B, the group that said they would pursue their passions first and let money come later.

Right there is another clue on how to attract money.

Where is your focus — on money or passion?
