Dream Jobs — Fab Jobs . . . The Ultimate Collection

Written by Michael on April 18, 2008 – 12:55 am -

I’ve recently  become affiliated with Fab Job, a publishing company that’s been producing ebook and print books on popular careers and jobs for the last few years.

They’re a solid outfit, and I think you’ll like what they do.

Click on Dream Careers to check out some of the dozens of cool dream jobs that Catherine and Tag Goulet have researched and write about.

Here’s what a reviewer at Amazon.com had to say about this tasty little collection of dream jobs:

This book is fantastic! It has great information not only about how we hold ourselves back from reaching our goals but, more importantly, it gives practical solutions and ideas about what to do to overcome those barriers. In addition, the quizzes helped me to get focused on what it is that I really want to do. Another thing worth mentioning is the great value — most books in this price range are thin (and so typically don’t offer any great substance). I highly recommend this book for anyone thinking of a career change.

In Dream Careers: How to Quickly Break Into a Fab Job, Tag and Catherine show you how to:

  • Identify and quickly break into a career that’s ideal for you through fun and insightful exercises, quizzes and advice.
  • Discover 101+ dream careers that are rarely advertised and get specific strategies to help you break in.
  • Make a job application stand out, how to find a job through word of mouth, and even how to create your dream job.

Check out Dream Careers for an overview of dozens of different career possibilities.  Yummy dream job stuff!

How to Start Up Your Own Coffee House

Written by Michael on April 9, 2008 – 10:55 am -

I’ve recently  become affiliated with Fab Job, a publishing company that’s been producing ebook and print books on popular careers and jobs for the last few years.

They’re a solid outfit, and I think you’ll like what they do.

Click on Become a Coffee House Owner to check out some of the cool benefits of running your own coffee house (which, as it so happens, is one of own secret dream job passions).

The FabJob Guide to Become a Coffee House Owner  is a step-by-step guide that will teach you how to get your coffee house open and how to keep it going.

Here’s what one successful reader-turned-cafepreneur, Tom Hennessy, had to say:

I opened my own café in Santa Fe. My business partners were also my best friends. We had already opened three other full service restaurants but the café was easier, and a lot more fun! It wasn’t that hard to do - I don’t know why I waited so long.

By owning your own coffee house, you become part of a rich culture. In our culture, coffee is seen as social, affluent, and hip. The FabJob Guide to Become a Coffee House Owner shows you how to:

• Buy an existing coffee house or franchise, or open a new coffee house
• Build a coffee house (including how to find the right location and avoid costly mistakes)
• Save money on equipment for your café
• Market your coffee house to attract customers
• Finance your coffee house business and manage your money

Invest Zero, Pocket Almost $3,000

Written by Michael on April 3, 2008 – 12:36 am -

I’ve written about Christine Kelly and her site, Self-Made Chick, before.

She’s smart, funny, generous with her knowledge (self-made, at that), and generally right-on when it comes to all things netpreneurial.  This chick walks the talk!

She’s recently written about how she turned her experiences (in business and in life) into a short ebook and made a few bucks along the way.

I’m confident she’s going to make a lot more before she’s done with this little mini-venture.

And, specifically for those of you who’re exploring online publishing, her model’s a good one if you want to get something into a downloadable ebook format.

So, check out the Self-Made Chick.  Good stuff and a Top 5er.

Sending Resume? Do You Tell ‘Em WHY?

Written by Michael on April 2, 2008 – 4:01 am -

Okay, friends, I’m going to yell and scream a tad today.

Really.

There’s something about people who send resumes and don’t tell me why or where the connection is.

When I receive these where-in-the-hell-did-this-guy-come-from resume, all I want to do is go: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

And, if you want to hear what that sounds like, check this out.

Free Podcasting Courses

Written by Michael on March 26, 2008 – 3:16 pm -

Please feel free to pass this around or link to it.

Open to all comers.

I have some good news for you.  I toil away at my ‘day job’ over at InfoSource Learning.  One of our divisions there, Teachbits.com, is the teacher-to-teacher marketplace where teachers can buy, sell, or share learning materials.

I’ve spent the last few months at various educational conferences and trade shows, and one of the hottest topics at each conference has been the use of podcasts in and for the classroom.

But, as you know, podcasting is a hot topic in general, not just with teachers.

So . . . that’s why I’m excited to tell that I want to give you (freebies . . . no charge, no hidden costs, no sweat) access to three online podcasting courses.  We’re making this offer to all of our Teachbits participants (which is no charge as well).

These online little jewels (each about 90 minutes long) take you all the way through the podcasting basics and simple-to-understand terminology to integrating podcasts in the classroom.  Each course is written by a been-there-done-that-in-the-classroom teacher, but they apply to everyone in just about any walk of life or business.

Good, yummy, useful stuff. Check ‘em out.

We normally sell these courses to entire school districts for their teachers’ professional development needs, and the charge is somewhere in the $25 per-course-per-teacher range, but . . . for you, again, no charge, no hidden costs, no sweat.

To sign up:

You’ll need to be a Contributor (no charge for that either) at Teachbits.com, so you should sign up there first.

Go to http://www.teachbits.com/sell/ to create your account (no charge) as a Contributor.  You’ll need to remember your ID and password!

Go to http://freelearning.howtomaster.com/and use your Teachbits ID and password – they’ll work here as well.  Use PODCAST as your free passcode to get into the courses at the freelearning site.

Questions or problems? Simply send me an email at mwerner(AT)infosourcelearning.com and we’ll get on the case.

Happy podcasting to you,
Michael

Do You “Get to Do” Your Dream Job?

Written by Michael on March 25, 2008 – 12:55 am -

Seth Godin grabbed me again, and maybe he will you too.  In a recent post, Seth talks about the pleasure of writing blog posts . . . where they’re not a pain, but rather a privilege.

Here’s what Master Godin Says:

Someone asked me the other day if posting a blog post every day is intimidating or a grind.

I view it as something I get to do. I spend most of my blogging time deciding what not to post.

The best work, at least for me, is the stuff you get to do. If you are really good at that, you’re lucky enough to have very little of the have to stuff left.

Do you, Dream Job Seeker, see your work this way?  If you do, you’re doin’ good.  If you don’t, tell me why not and let’s see what we can do about it.
